Last week, I had the pleasure of photographing a Day in the Life of Swizz Beatz for Billboard. It was a really amazing day – we began at a Music Unites event at the Intrepid, which is devoted to creating and continuing music education in underfunded schools. We spent time at his recording studio, stopped by an art gallery, got dinner, and finished the day backstage at VH1′s Save the Music event at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square. Here’s a quick behind-the-scenes photo with Waka Flocka Flame, Swizz Beatz, and French Montana.

This shoot is the reason why I woke up last week with cake stuck to my skin, jeans, and camera! Such a fun shoot for Spin Magazine, in the green room at the Wavves show at the 1800 Tequila “Essential Artists” party at Nejla, where they surprised lead singer Nathan Williams with a cake that had the cover of Spin Magazine printed on it (he is on the cover this month).

Back in February, I shot a “Day in the Life” with the Rascal Flatts for TheBoot.com. You can check out the full photo gallery and video online here. We had such a blast. I documented them during the day of their last show of their tour, ending at the Izod Center in New Jersey. But before we got to the green room at the venue, the band headed to Hillside, NJ, where they volunteered at a food bank, and filmed some promo spots for their new partnership with Feeding America and General Mills. The band is hilarious, and had everyone in the room cracking up the entire day, and it was awesome to see such a huge band taking on something like fighting hunger, and using their rockstar status to make the world a better place
Best part? Last year, I took my Mom on a surprise trip to Nashville for her birthday (she loves country music!) and we saw Rascal Flatts get inducted into the Grand Ole Opry. It’s a night I’ll never forget, it was SO much fun. Anyway, the band was sweet enough to sign the photo book I made for my Mom, of photos from the trip!
[ Day in the Life: B.o.B for Billboard.com | Photos by Diana Levine http://www.dianalevine.com ] Yesterday, I photographed a “Day in the Life” of B.o.b for Billboard. We had a really fun day, going to Hot 97 with Angie Martinez, driving around the city, and hanging out backstage and sound-checking before his Bowery Ballroom show. Such a fun and sweet person to photograph. Some of his songs you probably know are Airplanes, Nothin’ On You (feat. Bruno Mars), Magic (feat. Rivers Cuomo) among many more. Check out the article by Erika Ramirez and the full gallery here at Billboard.com. Big thanks to Rachel Been, Sydney Margetson, Erika, and everyone else involved with the shoot <3
Earlier this month, I shot a Day in the Life: Wale. You can check out the video and photos online here at TheBoombox. I had such a fun time with him, on the day of his album release for Ambition. This Day in the Life included stops to Power 105.1, Fight Club sneaker store, US Weekly, Rolling Stone, MTV RapFix with Sway, a signing at J&R Music World, Atrium, and Hot 97, among other places. I first heard Wale from his song Chillin’ with Lady Gaga, and W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E. (video was directed by our old friend Todd Angkasuwan!), and I operated B-cam on a music video of his in DC a few years back, so it was fun to work with him and my awesome Aol crew on this shoot.
Here are some of my photos I shot for “Day in the Life: J. Cole” for Aol / TheBoombox.com (the video I shot with Elizabeth Bruneau is below). We had such a blast on this shoot — his new album Cole World went #1 this week, so it was a day filled with wildly excited fans, and there was so much energy in the air.
Here are a couple behind-the-scenes photos from the shoot:
Here are some photos from my shoot with Josh Kelley last month for TheBoot.com. It was a blast getting to know him, and hear lots of cute stories about his life, his wife (Katherine Heigl) and their adorable daughter. Not gunna lie, I started tearing up a little when he played his song Naleigh Moon, about holding his daughter for the first time! I’m sure you know his song Amazing, and he has a new album out now called Georgia Clay. It was wonderful working with his whole team and The Boot on this project.
Here are some photos I shot for A Day in the Life: David Archuleta for PopEater. This was a great shoot – he is such a positive, talented young musician, and his energy and love for his work is infectious. We started the day at Jive Records, where he signed lots of copies of his new album, The Other Side of Down. We then documented the rest of his day, recording liners, doing interviews for Alloy.com, checking out his new “Archie App”, interviews with Associated Press, MTV (10 on Top and and MTV News with Jim Cantiello), and more. It was a blast getting to know him, and I can’t wait to see what he does next.
Back in April, I did a photo and video project in studio with John Legend as he recorded his new album “Wake Up!” for TheBoombox. It was an awesome experience to see/listen to him working on the album – I can’t wait for it to come out in September. He was such a kind person to work with, and, frankly, it was pretty phenomenal to hear him playing piano and singing up close – certainly an experience I won’t forget soon.
Here are some new photos from the documentary project I shot for Hanson back in April. Check out the full photo gallery and video I shot online at PopEater. It was a really fun day. It took place on the day of their last show at the Gramercy Theater (they did 5 nights in a row, each night performing a different album. The final night, they played their new album ,Shout it Out). I know I’ve said this before, but they really are the kindest, most genuine guys. Totally devoted to music, to creativity, to their values, and to their fans. It was a pleasure to work with them in April and May.
